Knight’s society Kumpanija is a folk ensemble that keeps traditional dances and customs from Blato and Vela Luka. The most interesting is the sword dance Kumpanija that is accompanied with a drum and a bagpipe. Sword dance Kumpanija or “the battle dance“, as it is traditionally called, presents the tradition of the local militia that used to protect the town because there were no walls around it to keep the invaders out. So the people of Blato formed the militia. The practice and exercise of that militia developed into the sword dance. Today you will be able to attend to this dance that will be performed infront of the parish church. Swords, young man, honour and pride , tradition, what one would wish more for? Follow Andrea and traditions of the island will be presented to you in the most original way. Accompanied with the drum and the bagpipes, the dancer’s follow the captain performing different combination. The dance ends in the sword duels. Very interesting is the dance of the flag-bearer with the flag three meters long and two meters high.

Great tour of the sword dance, Andrea. We didn't get to see the whole dance presentation because it went over 1.5 hours and Andrea had to head over to another commitment. Thank you for staying the extra time, Andrea.
