About the tour

The Mataram Sultanate was the origin of the current Sultanate of Yogyakarta. The history of this kingdom was started in 1587, when the first King built his palace in the area called Mentaok forest. Most of his palace now had vanished, but the mosque and the royal cemetery, that we will visit, still standing as a mark of its glory. Learn about the acculturation of Hindu and Islam in this mosque complex. This mixed cultures created the great uniqueness of place.

Gagat is a wonderful guide with knowledge and mild manners. Although this place is not as awesome as others in Yogyakarta it is full of history and beautiful old buildings and doors with carvings.
