Jiayuguan Great Wall, commonly known as "The Great Wall of the Cantilever” or “Overhanging Great Wall,” is the only original section the Great Wall in this region that forms part of the ancient Silk Road. From the Great Wall, you can take in the vast scenery outside the pass with views of the Gobi Desert and oasis in the distance. If you use your imagination, you can picture racing Mongol invaders ready to attack as the wall protects travelers and merchants. The Great Wall is located on the northern slope of Heishan Mountain on the north side of Shiguan Xiakou, 8 kilometers north of Jiayuguan Castle, Jiayuguan City, Gansu Province. In the eighteenth year of Jiajing in the Ming Dynasty (1539), to strengthen the defense of Jiayuguan Castle, Suzhou Bingbei Road Li Han was outside the dark wall and started on the hill on the south side of the gorge, and a 15-kilometer-long stone wall was built. This was the last section where the Great Wall is injected into Jiayuguan. Join our guide Lee to explore this historic site and learn more about this section of the Great Wall and its role in the ancient Silk Road.

Lee made huge effort to get us to this portion of the wall with as few people as possible around us. My pictures came out wonderfully and I learned a lot from him. I really appreciate the amount of effort Lee and Jenny's China Tours put into this series of tours. Thank you!
