About the tour

Let’s continue our live walk along Bazarnaya street. Named after one of the oldest city bazars (yes, markets are called bazars in Odessa), the street became the second Jewish quarter and is soaked with Jewish history. Lots of early Jewish settlers were artisans of various sorts: coppersmiths, glasscutters, watchmakers. They made weight weights and tools for different measurements. They had stalls in one of the city’s first markets, called the Free Bazar. They settled near the market, making the area the second Jewish quarter in the city’s early days. Later in the eighteen hundreds Bazarnaya street became home to the Zionists’ publishing house “Kadima” and to the Jewish intellectuals, including Moshe Leib Lilienblum and Josef Gedalja Klausner. Traditions carry on and today this street is the address of the Odessa’s Progressive Jewish community, established in 1998. Join this live-stream walk along old Bazarnaya street, located on the outskirts of the city center to continue exploring Odessa’s fascinating Jewish history.

Meet OlgaOdessaWalks

OlgaOdessaWalks

Olga's journey to guiding and establishing Odessa Walks started in 1998 when she left her home country and went to California to attend a business school. What made her move across the ocean back then? First off, interest to see the world and desire to explore her career options. And while studies were certainly important, traveling was her real passion. After obtaining an MBA degree she has worked in California, London and Moscow. Finally, in 2011 she made a decision to return to Odessa, her anchor city. Why? To build something of her own, based on what she loves most: meeting people, this amazing city and its rich heritage. As a result, Odessa Walks Ltd. came to live in 2011. Since then she's been managing the business and providing in-person tours. Since the fall of 2020 she's been creating online Odessa experiences.
