Let’s continue exploring fascinating and immense Odessa’s Jewish heritage. This live stream tour will take us on a walk along Bazarnaya street soaked with Jewish history. Named after one of the two oldest markets (in Odessa markets are called bazars), it can be as well called the second Jewish street (we already have Jewish street!). In the late eighteen hundreds this tranquil street on the outskirts of the city center became the address for quite a few Jewish intellectuals who moved to Odessa. Dubnow, Tchernichowsky, Dizengoff, Jabotinsky are just some of the names connected to Bazarnaya. We’ll be strolling along this long street planted with old acacia trees, sneaking a peek behind the facades of the heritage buildings and talking about Odessa becoming a center of intellectual life for the Jews in the Russian Empire. The first in Odessa yeshiva was located in Bazarnaya street and this old two-floor building survived the Soviet period and boasts quite a few fascinating stories. What’s more to it, we’ll explore modern Jewish life in Odessa. You’ll hear the story of the largest local Jewish community as we see the operating synagogue, the Jewish public and boarding schools. Join me on this live-stream tour to continue exploring Odessa’s fascinating Jewish heritage! Sights included into the tour: • The synagogue of tailors • Jewish boarding school (exterior only) • Jewish public school (exterior only) • Building of the Jewish professional college opened by the Haskalah movement in the 19th century • Old building of the yeshiva • The House with an Angel • Odessa’s addresses of Dubnow, Tchernichowsky, Dizengoff, Jabotinsky
Olga's journey to guiding and establishing Odessa Walks started in 1998 when she left her home country and went to California to attend a business school. What made her move across the ocean back then? First off, interest to see the world and desire to explore her career options. And while studies were certainly important, traveling was her real passion. After obtaining an MBA degree she has worked in California, London and Moscow. Finally, in 2011 she made a decision to return to Odessa, her anchor city. Why? To build something of her own, based on what she loves most: meeting people, this amazing city and its rich heritage. As a result, Odessa Walks Ltd. came to live in 2011. Since then she's been managing the business and providing in-person tours. Since the fall of 2020 she's been creating online Odessa experiences.
Get ready for something special. We’re travelling to Odessa with no passport, no plane ticket and no luggage. And yet you’ll experience all the sights, sounds and stories with just your laptop, favorite snack and an amazing content creator.
The tour will last about 60 mins and will be live-streamed by your content creator directly from Odessa. Forget about slideshows or pre-recorded videos, this is a live broadcast and anything can happen!
While on the tour you’ll be able to see a full screen video of your content creator and their surroundings, interact with them and other travellers through the live chat, see where you are in the world on a map and show your appreciation with a tip.
We are running these tours on a tip-supported basis to make them as accessible as possible. They are free to join, but you have the option to leave a tip during the tour.
The majority of your tip goes directly to support the channel, while the rest helps Heygo continue to build a place that brings the world closer together.

I have learned so much on all 4 of Olga’s Odessa Jewish tours. All four are worthwhile to learn about the past and present. She is a real trooper as it started to pour, but she went on in spite of the heavy rain.
