About the tour

Food, food, food. When we feel down, when we feel great or just as a daily need: love to food and preparing meals connect us all. Join me on a stroll along Ljubljana Farmer’s Market. You will hear what our typical dishes are; see what I sold on the market at this time of the year. Maybe you will get an idea what could you prepare for your lunch today. DOBER TEK!

Meet your local guide

Mateja

Mateja fondly calls Ljubljana a hidden gem sandwiched in the middle of South Europe, halfway between Venice and Vienna. A potpourri of different cultures, Ljubljana offers the best of almost three worlds! Be it the Latin temperament, Germanic punctuality or Slavic melancholy. Mateja is a passionate tourism professional and has been working in the exciting travel space for over 30 years. She's juggled multiple hats as a tourist guide, destination expert, local host, and tour manager. At university, she deep-dived into cultural history and discovered her love for sharing her culture and heritage with visitors, connecting common cultural intricacies and always bringing a ‘wow!’ moment into her tour. Mateja loves meeting new people and making lifelong friends across different parts of the world. On her tour, you might just pick up some fun Slovenian words! “Let's roll our tongues and learn some unique words like ŽIVJO,” she says. Bonus points if you’ve nailed what it means (without Googling!) She loves showcasing the sheer beauty of the landscape - sometimes with a couple of locals joining in. “The locals see me doing virtual tours and wonder: What is she doing? Too young to talk to herself, too old to do selfies for social media!" she laughs.

Mateja has been guiding since Apr 1988

What to expect

Get ready for something special. We're travelling to Ljubljana with no passport, no plane ticket and no luggage. And yet you'll experience all the sights, sounds and stories with just your laptop, favorite snack and an amazing guide.

The tour will last about 45 mins and will be live-streamed by your guide directly from Ljubljana. Forget about slideshows or pre-recorded videos, this is a live broadcast and anything can happen!

While on the tour you’ll be able to see a full screen video of your guide and their surroundings, interact with them and other travellers through the live chat, see where you are in the world on a map and show your appreciation with a tip.

Why are they tip-supported?

We are running these tours on a tip-supported basis to make them as accessible as possible. They are free to book and join, but you have the option to tip the guide during the tour.

Leaving a tip will help support the guides and allow us to offer tours in more places around the world. If you aren't able to leave a tip, then it would be great if you can share the tour with friends and family to spread the word.

What a super tour for foodie lovers. Fascinating hour in the market. Well planned with lots of cooking tips. I cannot wait to do another shopping trip with Mateja.

I thoroughly enjoyed this slow paced easy going kind of tour showing how local people shop and browse in a market in daily life. I think Mateja has to be a good cook because her Friday meal plan sounds very tempting.
