About the tour

Imagine it – you’ve just arrived in Sydney and have settled into your hotel. You’ve freshened up and are ready to go have a look around. A friend of a friend is meeting you to show you around a bit (that’s me - hi). On this tour we’ll set off from one of Sydney’s better hotels and explore central Sydney – there’s no promised route, nor guaranteed sites. We’ll wander and see what looks interesting. Sites that are likely to come up at least sometimes are the Queen Victoria Building, or The Strand, George Street, Hyde Park, and St Mary’s Cathedral. Where it’s feasible, I’ll happily take requests and suggestions from you. I’m just deleting the pledge to run the tour twice every three weeks – with overall attendance down right now, I think once every three weeks will suffice.

Meet Elizabeth - Sydney

Elizabeth - Sydney

Elizabeth is an American by birth, Australian by choice. She is a happy immigrant and resident of Sydney for nearly 21 years. Having been fascinated with Australia since she was 12, Elizabeth found that when she arrived in Sydney in 2000, she already knew more about her new home than many of the Australians she met. She finally put all that knowledge to work as a tour guide in 2019 – just in time to really fall in love with it before Covid hit. From the iconic sights that always take her breath away no matter how many times she’s seen them, like the Opera House and the Sydney Harbour Bridge, to the little-known but beautiful corners of the city, Elizabeth loves exploring Sydney and showing it off to friends and guests. She lives in Manly, on Sydney’s northern beaches. She’s been very slowly blogging her way through all 84 of Sydney’s beaches and is working on a travel memoir about riding her bicycle around Europe.

I’m a loyal supporter of Elizabeth anyway, but the tour description really captured my interest as an avid traveler. When checking into my hotel, wandering around the city aimlessly to see what’s nearby is often what I do. So being able to do exactly that with Elizabeth virtually was intriguing. It really is like discovering things you never would have thought to look for with a friend who lives there. Great tour.

Enjoyed the tour of what seems to be a fascinating city - There's a lot more to it than the Opera House
