About the tour

Every tour we will do another part of Amsterdam, so it will be a surprise what we will see. Think about cycling over the canals, through the narrow streets of the Jordaan, cross steep bridges, enjoy the parks and stop at some of Amsterdam's most beautiful places. During this virtual bike tour you will learn more about the cycling culture in Amsterdam and how it is part of our daily life. For example, did you know that there are more bicycles than people in Amsterdam? My bike is ready! Are you going to get lost?

Meet your local guide

Stephan is a real Dutchie, he was born in Delft (the city of Vermeer), grown up in Gouda (the cheese city), studied in Leiden (city of Rembrandt) and he lived in Rotterdam (the harbour city) before moving to our capital Amsterdam in 2006. After a career in technology as an Online Strategist, he decided to leave behind the corporate world to start guiding visitors of Amsterdam and started his own private tour agency, Amsterdam Experiences. He found out that walking and cycling around the city with international visitors is a lot more fun than a desk job! As a host, Stephan loves to show his virtual guests, the hidden gems in Amsterdam through the eyes of a local. He has a passion for telling stories about Dutch history and culture. So join him on the bike or by foot, and see the highlights of Amsterdam.

Stephan has been guiding since Jul 2016

What to expect

Get ready for something special. We're travelling to Amsterdam with no passport, no plane ticket and no luggage. And yet you'll experience all the sights, sounds and stories with just your laptop, favorite snack and an amazing guide.

The tour will last about 45 mins and will be live-streamed by your guide directly from Amsterdam. Forget about slideshows or pre-recorded videos, this is a live broadcast and anything can happen!

While on the tour you’ll be able to see a full screen video of your guide and their surroundings, interact with them and other travellers through the live chat, see where you are in the world on a map and show your appreciation with a tip.

Why are they tip-supported?

We are running these tours on a tip-supported basis to make them as accessible as possible. They are free to book and join, but you have the option to tip the guide during the tour.

Leaving a tip will help support the guides and allow us to offer tours in more places around the world. If you aren't able to leave a tip, then it would be great if you can share the tour with friends and family to spread the word.

Stephan welcomed everyone on the tour and was such a happy and optimistic individual. He was able to talk about the Basque character - which was interesting as when visiting other parts of Spain people are garrulus, open and hospitable. Not to say that Basques are not but as Stephan said, they are a bit reticent with outsiders which surprised me. Stephan had such verve in showing us around town. His enthusiasm for history and culture was facinating. He was very polite in giving us time to get great postcard shots. In such a short period of time, I certainly learned a lot about Basque social and economic history. We were all craving the famous chocolate and pastries displayed in a shop and Stephan gave us the history behind the development of chocolate in the Basque area. Stephan made it a very exciting and informative tour. More tours please --- Roncesvalles perhaps?
