About the tour

A very special tour through the historic heart of this Midlands city. Like many cities before it, Derby has just installed a special sculpture trail for the summer of 2021. Taking as its theme the city's emblem - a ram - the colourful trail showcases the work of local artists and celebrates the city's rich and diverse history. From variations on great artworks to creative expressions of Derby people's achievements in all kinds of fields, the ram sculptures are a fun and interesting addition to the city. Our tour includes almost half of the 30 sculptures, focusing on those in the most fascinating and important locations around Derby's historic centre and Cathedral Quarter. We will discover the stories behind both the rams and the places they are in. The sculpture trail is only there for a couple of months, so make sure you join the tour to see the artworks before they are gone. And I hope you are impressed - an entire description of a ram sculpture trail, and not a single sheep related pun!

Meet Ian

Hello and thanks for visiting. I’m Ian, a professionally qualified guide. I hold the Blue Badge, which is the UK’s highest tour guiding qualification and have many years’ experience guiding in both English and German. My passion is sharing places and stories with people from around the world, and helping them discover more about this country and particularly the Midlands, where I have lived for almost all my life. I have a friendly and informal style and always aim to bring history to life with anecdotes about people and events rather than just dry facts. I love the sense of community with Heygo and enjoy seeing the same people joining multiple tours. On all of my tours you can expect information, humour and friendly conversation. I want you to sit back, relax and enjoy the experience as you take a walk with your new friend in England. Wherever in the world you are from, I look forward to giving you the warmest of British welcomes.

What to expect

Get ready for something special. We’re travelling to Derby with no passport, no plane ticket and no luggage. And yet you’ll experience all the sights, sounds and stories with just your laptop, favorite snack and an amazing content creator.

The tour will last about 60 mins and will be live-streamed by your content creator directly from Derby. Forget about slideshows or pre-recorded videos, this is a live broadcast and anything can happen!

While on the tour you’ll be able to see a full screen video of your content creator and their surroundings, interact with them and other travellers through the live chat, see where you are in the world on a map and show your appreciation with a tip.

Why are they tip-supported?

We are running these tours on a tip-supported basis to make them as accessible as possible. They are free to join, but you have the option to leave a tip during the tour.

The majority of your tip goes directly to support the channel, while the rest helps Heygo continue to build a place that brings the world closer together.

Finally got to make one of Ian's tours and it was thoroughly enjoyable, artistic and informative. Derby looks worthy of a visit, hopefully while the rams are still around. Good to support local artists and the rams we saw depicted something special about the city. looking forward to part 2
