Polonnaruwa Medieval capital is one of the best preserved ruins to explore in the cultural triangle of Sri Lanka. During this period the flourishing agrarian economy had made Sri Lanka self-sufficient in food. It’s a UNESCO heritage site and one of the best historical and archeological highlight in the Island. I will show you the 12th century unbelievable skills of architecture while walking through the remains of the ancient Buddhist monastery where hundreds of monks occupied. Fascinating history with incredible Giant stupas, Buddha images, stone sculpting and ancient hospital complex takes you to the medieval era. Today as the ruins mingled with the nature, it has become a home for birds and many other wildlife including endemic purple face leaf monkey and toque monkey.
