About the tour

Join me for a stroll through the coolest neighbourhood in the city, sometimes dubbed the "Soho of Nottingham". The former industrial area of Hockley has been transformed into one of the city's liveliest and most fashionable districts. Packed with quirky independent shops, laid back cafes and bars and some of Nottingham's best art and music venues, the area is also home to the electic mix of architecture that characterises the whole city and lots of vibrant street art. We will also see how the spirit of Hockley is extending into the former market area of Sneinton, which has changed almost beyond recognition in recent years with run-down market halls reinvented as venues for shopping, entertainment and creativity. If you think Nottingham is all about outlaws, sheriffs and history, think again and explore the place to be in the 21st century city.

Meet Ian

Ian

Hello and thanks for visiting. I’m Ian, a professionally qualified guide. I hold the Blue Badge, which is the UK’s highest tour guiding qualification and have many years’ experience guiding in both English and German. My passion is sharing places and stories with people from around the world, and helping them discover more about this country and particularly the Midlands, where I have lived for almost all my life. I have a friendly and informal style and always aim to bring history to life with anecdotes about people and events rather than just dry facts. I love the sense of community with Heygo and enjoy seeing the same people joining multiple tours. On all of my tours you can expect information, humour and friendly conversation. I want you to sit back, relax and enjoy the experience as you take a walk with your new friend in England. Wherever in the world you are from, I look forward to giving you the warmest of British welcomes.

What to expect

Get ready for something special. We’re travelling to Nottingham with no passport, no plane ticket and no luggage. And yet you’ll experience all the sights, sounds and stories with just your laptop, favorite snack and an amazing content creator.

The tour will last about 45 mins and will be live-streamed by your content creator directly from Nottingham. Forget about slideshows or pre-recorded videos, this is a live broadcast and anything can happen!

While on the tour you’ll be able to see a full screen video of your content creator and their surroundings, interact with them and other travellers through the live chat, see where you are in the world on a map and show your appreciation with a tip.

Why are they tip-supported?

We are running these tours on a tip-supported basis to make them as accessible as possible. They are free to join, but you have the option to leave a tip during the tour.

The majority of your tip goes directly to support the channel, while the rest helps Heygo continue to build a place that brings the world closer together.

Ian is always great - genial, well-informed, and with a sharp eye for interesting details. I’ve been on three virtual tours of different parts of Nottingham with him, and it’s the next best thing to being there. I look forward to joining him on other tours in the future.
