About the tour

A country and coastal walk, exploring the west coast. Gill loves this part of the island because it has references to so many layers of local history. From a Neolithic passage grave, Napoleonic defences, an ice age shingle bank and the specialised habitats including the amazing intertidal zone between Guernsey and the tiny Lihou Island right up to the German occupation. It can be wild and unspoilt. We will walk through German trenches, on coastal paths and even walk on a tidal causeway, only uncovered 2 weeks of each month when the tide is low enough.

Meet your local guide

Gill was born in Guernsey and has lived here for most of her life, working in the hospitality industry and for the last 20 years as a tour guide. She is passionate about her island and loves talking to people about the fascinating history. She has family who were there throughout the occupation in the Second World War and some who were evacuated so has many family anecdotes to pass on. She was also the tour guide who helped the film crew research the very successful film of the Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society book, a film about the occupation.

Gill has been guiding since May 2000

This was a lovely tour of such a beautiful spot on Guernsey. Gill had so much information and history to tell us about, from the Mesolithic period to the second world war. Also lots of wildlife to see! I enjoyed it very much.
