Ghent is a beautiful medieval city with many cobbled streets lined with quaint crow gabled houses. At night, when the light falls, and all of the shops have closed it becomes eerily quiet and peaceful. Specially designed atmospheric streetlights illuminate the city until the stroke of midnight when they are replaced by ordinary lights. As we explore the city together, we will catch the dancing of reflections upon the surface of Ghent’s two rivers, and the dark shadows of the imposing Gravensteen Castle looming over the city. Let’s explore this magical nocturnal landscape of light and shadow together and discover Ghent by night.
Stephan is a real Dutchie, he was born in Delft (the city of Vermeer), grown up in Gouda (the cheese city), studied in Leiden (city of Rembrandt) and he lived in Rotterdam (the harbour city) before moving to our capital Amsterdam in 2006. After a career in technology as an Online Strategist, he decided to leave behind the corporate world to start guiding visitors of Amsterdam and started his own private tour agency, Amsterdam Experiences. That’s when he discovered that walking and cycling around the city with international visitors is a lot more fun than a desk job! As a guide, Stephan loves to show his virtual guests the hidden gems of Amsterdam through the eyes of a local. He has a passion for telling stories about Dutch history and culture. Stephan is very enthusiastic about the Netherlands and also guides tours in Delft, Utrecht, Rotterdam, Gouda, Leiden and Den Hague. Stephan’s tours cover a wide range of topics, whether that be sensitively tackling difficult subjects, such as Anne Frank and Jewish history of Amsterdam. However, he is equally comfortable being spontaneous, whether visiting goats in a goat farm to riding his orange flowerbike around with the flowerbike man himself. Stephan also now has tours in Belgium, covering Antwerp, Bruges and Ghent. So join him on the bike or by foot, and see the highlights of the Netherlands or even perhaps Belgium.

While on the tour you’ll be able to see a full screen video of your content creator and their surroundings, interact with them and other travellers through the live chat, see where you are in the world on a map and show your appreciation with a tip.
We are running these tours on a tip-supported basis to make them as accessible as possible. They are free to join, but you have the option to leave a tip during the tour.
The majority of your tip goes directly to support the channel, while the rest helps Heygo continue to build a place that brings the world closer together.

It was a pleasure to have been able to join Stephan for this night time tour of Ghent, a beautiful city, and in every sense an "illuminating" experience! Definiitely somewhere I will have to make time to visit properly in due course!
