About the tour

Philadelphia was the Birthplace of America. Here, the Declaration of Independence and the US Constitution were drafted. But why was Philadelphia chosen to be the site of these two iconic documents? What made this British Colonial city different from New York, Boston or Charleston? The answer lies in the two men most responsible for Philadelphia's rapid rise: William Penn and Benjamin Franklin. Join your guides as they weave their way through the quaint Colonial streets of Old City and tells you about William Penn's vision for a religiously tolerant society, a most radical idea for his time. Learn how he managed to create Philadelphia and how his success led to it becoming the largest and wealthiest city in the New World. Ben Franklin is a legendary founding father, but most people do not understand what the man accomplished during his life in Philadelphia. Listen as Adam relates how Franklin took Penn's city and ushered it into the Age of Enlightenment through ground-breaking scientific discoveries and the creation of several civic institutions that we take for granted today. It was Franklin more than anyone else who made Philadelphia a progressive "shining city on a hill". Throughout the tour, you will marvel at the stunning 18th-century architecture and the history on every corner. Join your guide and get swept up in the incredible origin story of Philadelphia.

I learned a lot. The guide was very knowledgeable and presented information in a well done interesting manner. The little tidbits of details like the mulberry tree, and so many other tidbits - the Edison kids tore down the house to make rental housing...were fascinating.(Were they mad at their dad?) Looking forward to tomorrow's tour. Thanks
