Haute Goat Farm is a little piece of heaven located just outside Toronto, Canada. Shain and Debbie are 'ex-pats' from that city who came to their senses about 14 years ago and moved to the country, never looking back. They brought home their first horses just about 4 weeks after moving to the farm and have been lucky enough to have had quarter horses, appaloosas, standard breds and more. About 11 years ago Debbie discovered the amazing Icelandic horses and since then has owned several. At the moment she has 3 beautiful Icelandics, including Elska who is pregnant and due early August. Always curious, about 3 years ago Debbie started researching Mules - and brought home a large, goofy rescue mule named Lucy Mae Belle who had been born in Tennessee. Both the Icelandic horses and mules are fascinating breeds of equines who I dare you not to fall in love with. We will meet them all and have a riding demonstration of the Icelandic horse, with completely unique gaits and see Lucy Mae in action as well. We hope you'll join us!
Farmer Debbie wasn't always a farmer. She was born in Toronto and spent most of her life there. She spent many years as a tv producer with her own company, was the Founding Executive Director of the Hot Docs Festival, helped to grow the Toronto Film Festival's Industry Centre. As much as she loved that industry, she has always been incredibly passionate about animals. So when her husband suggested they buy a farm outside the city, she jumped at the opportunity and never looked back. They bought their first farm in 2007. By 2009 they had 4 goats, 5 horses, a whole bunch of chickens and a few dogs and cats. What Shain and Debbie discovered is that whenever they mentioned having goats, friends, families and others pleaded to visit. The visitors came - and numbers grew like crazy. These days their Haute Goat Shmurgle and Alpaca Knuffle Shuffle are signature events at the farm. Visitors go hiking with the goats (total chaos) and end up in the Goat Playground snuggling, shmurgling and loving on the goats.....or go walking with the Alpacas in an incredibly tranquil, calming journey. We also have Icelandic Horses, an goofy big mule named Lucy Mae Belle and 3 Tornjak livestock dogs. Haute Goat is a place to really engage with animals in a very different way.
