About the tour

Echoing-Sand Mountain sits on the edge of the Gobi Desert just five KM away from the city of Dunhuang in China’s northwestern Gansu Province. The mountain is just like a golden dragon laid out in front of vast horizon of desert sand. When a strong wind blows, the fast-shifting sand roars and light breezes produce sounds like gentle music. Nearby Crescent Lake is a natural wonder of the Gobi Desert. Just as its name implies, the lake appears like a crescent moon and with its crystal-clear water, resembles a turquoise inlaid in the vast desert. Join us on an excursion into the Gobi Desert as part of our Silk Road Tour Series. Our guide, Lee, will share the stories and history behind this scenic, remote area. It’s famous for its picturesque scenes, lines of pack camels reminiscent of the original silk road mean of moving people and goods, oases of liveable villages, and of course, the unique culture of the locals. This area has an unbelievable harmonious existence where the desert and spring coexist and the mountain and lake are so like a family, people call them Gobi Desert twin sisters. You will enjoy a virtual tour with us to discover this unique portion of the Silk Road, but if you visit here in person, you can climb up the sand dune to overlook Crescent Lake, ride the dunes down, and can enjoy the sunset on the top of the dune and feel the desolation and vastness of the northwestern desert. Please follow our guide to dive into the magnificent views and rich history of the ancient Silk Road. Unfortunately, some tour areas have limited signal quality that we can’t control. We apologize if this happens and always use the feedback to look for better routes.

Absolutely amazing tour with Lee. The views of the desert will leave you stunned! It's so rare to find a place with a desert AND a natural lake. And in China! Just spectacular. I definitely recommend this tour. Thanks Lee and Jenny's China Tours.

Good to revisit an enchanting place, last visited 12 years ago. Much appears to have changed, some not for the better. Heard some singing sands, but saw no tobogganers whizzing down the dunes making that sound. Li was responsive and informative despite some of the dead signal spots. Must repeat.
