If you want to see the Berlin wall in Berlin there are only a few places left where you can go. When the Berlin Wall fell in 1989 the people wanted it gone as soon as possible. Berliners and people from around the world were hacking the concrete of the wall into pieces and whole slabs were sold to whoever wanted to pay for it so that the 176km border fence shrunk really rapidly. The East Side Gallery with its colorful murals is the longest and best preserved part of it with a length of 1.3km. We will take a stroll along the fabulous paintings of the longest outdoor gallery in the world and you will find out where the name originates from and why 2009 was a crucial year for the gallery. We will also get behind the wall and see how close the west of Berlin was but still how unreachable for the people in the East. Surrounding the East Side Gallery Berlin is getting a new futuristic face with shiny business and event buildings and office blocks that will have a fantastic view of the city once they are done. You will see a side of Berlin you would have not expected to see here. Going back to the old and beautiful the tour will end at the Oberbaumbrücke which is one of Berlin ́s most famous and most photographed bridge and you will see why. Arja is looking forward to seeing you in Berlin.
Welcome to Berlin, I'm Arja and I have been a full-time tour guide for 14 years now. Berlin is my playground as a studied historian, culture enthusiast and big city aficionada, and I am looking forward to sharing the stories of this great city with you. No matter if you are in Berlin for the first time and want to see all the most important sites or if you have been here before and are looking for stories and places off the beaten path, I will take you anywhere you want to go, because even the most remote corners of Berlin have a story to tell. With my granddad and mum being from former Eastern Berlin I feel a strong connection to Berlin even though I grew up in a small town in Western Germany. But as I was always drawn to the bigger places I first left for university in Hamburg where I got my M. A. in History and American literature, then for a year away in New Zealand and then to work as a tour guide all over Europe showing young people the most exciting places of this continent. Berlin was a natural choice for me continuing the family story in this city which was interrupted by the Stasi, the wall and the separation of Germany in 1954. I am looking forward to showing you this amazingly intruiging city in the virtual world and maybe one day in person. And of course Lulu is always on my and your tail...

Another incredible tour by Arja! She definitely knows her subjects inside out, which means info can flow naturally and with lots of extra humour added! The streetart was fascinating and Lulu is always the best sidekick!

Arja provided a superb tour of Berlin's East Gallery (the permanent open-air gallery of the largest surviving section of the Berlin Wall). Arja expertly wove the history of the time of the Wall while showing us the various artworks. I learned a great deal about past and present. Danke.
