About the tour

Discover the masterpieces of Vincent van Gogh in Amsterdam. The Van Gogh museum in Amsterdam houses the largest collection of his works in the world, including the sunflowers, the yellow house and the irises. Van Gogh’s use of colour, movement and texture has inspired people to look at the world in a different way In this ' at home tour' we have the unique opportunity to go through an empty Van Gogh museum. We will see several of his masterpieces, and learn more about one of the most famous painters from the low countries. There will be no annoying visitors standing in the way of a painting. We don’t have to queue or take into account the museum opening hours. Plus we can zoom in on the paintings so far that we can study every little detail of Impressionism. I will use high quality 4K video footage and a projector to explore some of the more well-known paintings in the collection, getting up close to them to examine the finer details you would otherwise only see at a distance. We will get so close that you will see each individual brush struck, and feel the intensity of emotion Van Gogh felt as he poured every fibre of being into creating his work. So take a tour with me of the Van Gogh museum in Amsterdam and see the sunflowers, the potato eaters and many other masterpieces by Van Gogh from your armchair.

Meet Stephan

Stephan is a real Dutchie, he was born in Delft (the city of Vermeer), grown up in Gouda (the cheese city), studied in Leiden (city of Rembrandt) and he lived in Rotterdam (the harbour city) before moving to our capital Amsterdam in 2006. After a career in technology as an Online Strategist, he decided to leave behind the corporate world to start guiding visitors of Amsterdam and started his own private tour agency, Amsterdam Experiences. That’s when he discovered that walking and cycling around the city with international visitors is a lot more fun than a desk job! As a guide, Stephan loves to show his virtual guests the hidden gems of Amsterdam through the eyes of a local. He has a passion for telling stories about Dutch history and culture. Stephan is very enthusiastic about the Netherlands and also guides tours in Delft, Utrecht, Rotterdam, Gouda, Leiden and Den Hague. Stephan’s tours cover a wide range of topics, whether that be sensitively tackling difficult subjects, such as Anne Frank and Jewish history of Amsterdam. However, he is equally comfortable being spontaneous, whether visiting goats in a goat farm to riding his orange flowerbike around with the flowerbike man himself. Stephan also now has tours in Belgium, covering Antwerp, Bruges and Ghent. So join him on the bike or by foot, and see the highlights of the Netherlands or even perhaps Belgium.
