Day of the Dead in Peru!

Tue, 2 Nov
Colca Canyon., Arequipa, Peru
60 mins

About the tour

In various parts of my Country, different practices are developed around celebration days that come both from pre-Hispanic times and from the customs that later developed with the arrival of the Spanish and are manifested in food, drink, music and others. In many cities in the mountains, cemeteries are visited, cleaning the niches and painting them to take good care of their family member. Likewise, special bread known as guaguas is prepared, which are made in the shape of children, horses and stars. These loaves are usually baptized with the presence of a priest. Come and join me to see this special day for Peruvian People in the Andes!!!

Meet Elizabeth Puma

Elizabeth Puma

Elizabeth was born and raised in the Colca Canyon area. She is very proud of her ancestors because her grandmother comes from the Pre-incas Civilization. She moved to Arequipa city as soon she finished high school because, in her small town, there weren't any University or Institutes. There, she studied history, culture, customs and the traditions of her country. She started guiding tours in 2008 and loves preparing new tours about everything from history to geology, volcanology and birding. She really enjoy showing people her country and loves to learn about other cultures as well. Join Elizabeth as she shows you the white city and it's surroundings, there is so much to see!

While on the tour you’ll be able to see a full screen video of your content creator and their surroundings, interact with them and other travellers through the live chat, see where you are in the world on a map and show your appreciation with a tip.

Why are they tip-supported?

We are running these tours on a tip-supported basis to make them as accessible as possible. They are free to join, but you have the option to leave a tip during the tour.
