About the tour

During this tour you will discover one of the famous village of Cinque Terre. (Five villages, even if terre in Italian means land, the right translation is village, small villages surrounded by lands). Riomaggiore is the village that you will discover with your guide Emilia. You will follow her up and down hill through old paths to reach the most beautiful panoramic views, breath-taking seaside promenades and picturesque pastel colour houses until to the marina area, the small fisherman’s bay. You will be enchanted by the vibrant colours of the water and the sky. Beside the landscape’s beauty you will discover a lot of local life, traditions, food. You will learn about the Cinque Terre wine, so hard to grow in such a vertical area and so good and fresh to drink overlooking the Mediterranean blue water. When possible a chat with a local will be remarkably interesting, especially if you will meet a wine producer. Cinque Terre are five small villages overlooking the blue Mediterranean Sea. Before 2020 every year we had about 8 million tourists, coming to enjoy this amazing territory. This small area, that is also a National Park, the smallest park of Italy and the only one where people live in and must remain there! Is worldwide famous because of the conformation of the territory. Fifteen kilometres of coast between two promontories, Punta Monte Nero e Punta Mesco. Five small villages overlooking the sea, five churches, five cemeteries, five mills and in total 5000 inhabitants. Dramatic sceneries, old and charming history related to the maritime republic of Genoa and the strength of these people who arrived on this part of coast from the mountains as farmer, they didn’t know a single thing about the sea, so they learned, they learned how to survive in those conditions, totally isolated until the first years of the XX century.

Emilia gave a very interesting tour with lots of wonderful scenery to view. Her personality shone through! After this, I'd love to go there.

I must admit, I booked this tour thinking it was one I hadn't taken before, but it all became very familiar very quickly, and I realised that I had taken the same tour back in April! It didn't matter at all, though - Emilia is definitely one of my favourite guides, and the scenery is breathtakingly beautiful, so I was more than happy to walk (virtually!) through these steep streets and alleyways surrounded by green terraced hills, lemon and orange trees, bright flowers cascading from balconies, fishing boats in the tiny, colourful harbour...and the clear blue sea, twinkling in the glorious sunshine! Stunningly beautiful, and with a perfect guide!

Always a pleasure to tour the Cinque Terre with Emilia! I travel solo a lot and I had forgotten how much richer a trip can be with a charming and knowledgeable tour guide like Emilia. Grazie, Bella
