About the tour

Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia is unique: the crossroads of many commercial routes as well as artistic styles. In the circle of 1 mile, you can find Romanesque, Gothic and Renaissance influences, flourishing Baroque, Classicism, joyful Art Nouveau, ascetic Cubism and unique Expressionism by the most notable Slovenian architect Jože Plečnik. All that in 45 minutes!

Meet your local guide

Mateja fondly calls Ljubljana a hidden gem sandwiched in the middle of South Europe, halfway between Venice and Vienna. A potpourri of different cultures, Ljubljana offers the best of almost three worlds! Be it the Latin temperament, Germanic punctuality or Slavic melancholy. Mateja is a passionate tourism professional and has been working in the exciting travel space for over 30 years. She's juggled multiple hats as a tourist guide, destination expert, local host, and tour manager. At university, she deep-dived into cultural history and discovered her love for sharing her culture and heritage with visitors, connecting common cultural intricacies and always bringing a ‘wow!’ moment into her tour. Mateja loves meeting new people and making lifelong friends across different parts of the world. On her tour, you might just pick up some fun Slovenian words! “Let's roll our tongues and learn some unique words like ŽIVJO,” she says. Bonus points if you’ve nailed what it means (without Googling!) She loves showcasing the sheer beauty of the landscape - sometimes with a couple of locals joining in. “The locals see me doing virtual tours and wonder: What is she doing? Too young to talk to herself, too old to do selfies for social media!" she laughs.

What to expect

Get ready for something special. We're travelling to Ljubljana with no passport, no plane ticket and no luggage. And yet you'll experience all the sights, sounds and stories with just your laptop, favorite snack and an amazing guide.

The tour will last about 45 mins and will be live-streamed by your guide directly from Ljubljana. Forget about slideshows or pre-recorded videos, this is a live broadcast and anything can happen!

While on the tour you’ll be able to see a full screen video of your guide and their surroundings, interact with them and other travellers through the live chat, see where you are in the world on a map and show your appreciation with a tip.

Why are they tip-supported?

We are running these tours on a tip-supported basis to make them as accessible as possible. They are free to book and join, but you have the option to tip the guide during the tour.

Leaving a tip will help support the guides and allow us to offer tours in more places around the world. If you aren't able to leave a tip, then it would be great if you can share the tour with friends and family to spread the word.

Mateja is clearly very well informed and runs a lot of tours. Her English is clear, she responds quickly and fully to chat comments and showed and explained many aspects of her beautiful city. We aim to join another of her tours one day.

I went to Ljubljana numerous times while I lived in Zagreb to go shopping or to wander around the beautiful old city and have a nice meal at Julia's. Mateja's tour gave me so much information about the city buildings. Now as soon as I can travel again I will go back to Ljubljana and see it in a different eye . Thank you.

Thank you Mateja! I enjoyed so much the tour and all the very interesting information about the city. I didn’t know much about Slovenia but you encouraged me to learn more about it.
