About the tour

Dramatic tree-lined avenues, a majestic fountain, formal flowerbeds and miniature lakes make up this UNESCO World Heritage Site. The late nineteenth century Gardens, showcasing the Royal Exhibition Building, were originally built for Melbourne’s 1880 International Exhibition, the pinnacle of the Marvellous Melbourne age. They are now protected as a remnant of the international exhibition movement. Features include a circular French Fountain, formal flowerbeds, plantings in honour of the Dalai Lama, ornamental lakes, and mature European trees that reflect the changing seasons. Come and join me for a stroll through the imposing Victorian-era Gardens, imagine that you're in another era - but watch out for possums, they will steal your lunch.

Meet Susanna

Susanna is an avid reader of historical detective novels, a radio producer, civil celebrant, over-worked grandmother and, for fun, she reconstructs Ancient Roman recipes. For over 30 years she taught adults, particularly women, in the technical aspects of radio broadcasting and film production, or how to get out there and just do it. She's also been a social worker, a consulting psychologist, stage actor and barmaid. Susanna is a proud descendant of 19th century convicts, republicans and revolutionaries and still wants to be a time-traveller.

I would have liked to see more flowers/gardens but I guess that was all that was in the area. She did give us good narration.
