About the tour

Walk along the South end of Oklahoma City's Bricktown Canal into the "Modern Frontier" with Cindy. Learn about the creation of this mile-long, man-made canal which links Oklahoma City's downtown with the Oklahoma River. The trail is wonderfully maintained and landscaped with waterfalls and native shrubbery to make it a beautiful area to explore. Learn about Oklahoma's unusual past as you enter the Chickasaw Plaza, featuring a statue of a Chickasaw warrior, and hear the story of the Indian Removal Act and the Trail of Tears. Pay tribute to the brave Native Americans from 39 federally recognized tribes who make up Oklahoma today. Finally, arrive at the Centennial Land Run Monument which commemorates the opening of the Unassigned Land in Oklahoma Territory with the Land Run of 1889. These forty-five bronze statues, one-and-a-half life-sized, stretch over an area of more than 365 feet -- longer than an American football field. The figures, designed by Oklahoma artist, Paul Moore, seem to be frozen in time as they celebrate the frantic moments when settlers rushed to place stakes in the ground to claim homesteads. Marvel at these monuments, filled with frenzy and emotion, as they seem to cross the Oklahoma canal and head to a destination beyond.

Well done. I had never heard of those bronze statues. They are amazing. I have seen many American states but have never been to Oklahoma.
