About the tour

For centuries, the Bull Ring area has been the commercial heart of the Birmingham. Its markets and traders helped a tiny village grow into the UK's second largest city and it is still a major destination for shoppers today. This tour is a chance to explore one of the oldest yet newest parts of the city. Stroll through a market dating back 850 years, find out how Paco Rabanne influenced the city's image, learn how Birmingham celebrated a great national hero, discover why this tour wouldn't be possible without a man named Peter and much more besides.

Meet Ian

Hello and thanks for visiting. I’m Ian, a professionally qualified guide. I hold the Blue Badge, which is the UK’s highest tour guiding qualification and have many years’ experience guiding in both English and German. My passion is sharing places and stories with people from around the world, and helping them discover more about this country and particularly the Midlands, where I have lived for almost all my life. I have a friendly and informal style and always aim to bring history to life with anecdotes about people and events rather than just dry facts. I love the sense of community with Heygo and enjoy seeing the same people joining multiple tours. On all of my tours you can expect information, humour and friendly conversation. I want you to sit back, relax and enjoy the experience as you take a walk with your new friend in England. Wherever in the world you are from, I look forward to giving you the warmest of British welcomes.

What to expect

Get ready for something special. We’re travelling to Birmingham with no passport, no plane ticket and no luggage. And yet you’ll experience all the sights, sounds and stories with just your laptop, favorite snack and an amazing content creator.

The tour will last about 45 mins and will be live-streamed by your content creator directly from Birmingham. Forget about slideshows or pre-recorded videos, this is a live broadcast and anything can happen!

While on the tour you’ll be able to see a full screen video of your content creator and their surroundings, interact with them and other travellers through the live chat, see where you are in the world on a map and show your appreciation with a tip.

Why are they tip-supported?

We are running these tours on a tip-supported basis to make them as accessible as possible. They are free to join, but you have the option to leave a tip during the tour.

The majority of your tip goes directly to support the channel, while the rest helps Heygo continue to build a place that brings the world closer together.

Well, you weren't wrong - it did what it said on the tin ... a bull and a ring, literally. Really interesting to see hear how the modern structure echoes the routes of the past - not something that is immediately obvious. A lovely touch to revisit the monument for a fellow traveller at the end of the tour. You are a great guide.

An excellent tour by Ian explaining the design and architecture of Birmingham's Bull Ring precinct and the relationship with historical Birmingham. I love the unexpected moments in these tours. In this tour a young girl gave the bull statue a rub while Ian was explaining the tradition - so cute!
