Join Mark on a cycling round trip that starts in the very quaint and historic town of Edam. He will show you the main sights and then take you on a gentle ride to the old fort that formed part of Amsterdam's famous water defence line. Nearby are the locks that kept out the sea and enabled Dutch barges to change water level to the lower inland levels to continue their journey. From there it's a short ride along a Dutch dike, the old water defence against the sea to the fishing village of Volendam. This is a famous tourist destination now and picturesque in its own way. It is always interesting to compare Volendam and Edam in quick succession. The route back to Edam is the inland route past parkland, nature areas and some and some gorgeous canals dotted with waterlillies
