About the tour

The leafy hood of Prenzlauer Berg attracts not just a lot of tourists, but also Berlin's upper crust: an international crowd of people who go for the district's slew of cafes and bars and its abundance of period buildings, giving it its very special charm. During our walking tour we'll discover a converted brewery, a fabulous Museum for Architectural Drawing, catch a glimpse of Berlin's second oldest Jewish cemetery, and explore the history of one of Berlin's oldest water tanks. The tour ends at the spectacular Ryke Strasse Synagogue which, sadly, we can't go in for security reasons but which we'll see from the outside. Join me, on this walking tour through one of Berlin's loveliest neighbourhoods!

Meet Martin

Berlin’s stunning landscape can stupefy you. Home to over 200 parks, forests and green spaces, and over a hundred lakes - replete with beautiful lidos and sandy beaches - it’s one of the greenest cities in the world. Martin helps you discover all this, and more! Having experienced the fall of The Wall first hand, Martin lived abroad between 1994 and 2010 and experienced a potpourri of different cultures. At university, he explored German history and studied German-Jewish exile organizations that emerged as a result of the rise to power by the Nazis. Following his graduation, he was then offered to contribute to the exhibition “Eichmann on Trial”, organized by Berlin’s Topography of Terror. This led Martin back to Berlin, and he re-discovered the city he had left long ago. Fascinated by Berlin’s total make-over, he decided to turn his rekindled fascination with Berlin into his profession. Since then, his tours have been peppered with adventures and exciting stories, ranging from European cultures to celebrities like Marlene Dietrich. “I once gate-crashed the building where David Bowie used to live in Berlin with a customer who was a huge David Bowie fan and ‘bumped’ into a resident who promptly invited us to have coffee!” he says.

I love the energetic romps around Berlin with you. Lisbon and Seville are two of my all time favorite cities as well. I was in Leipzig a couple of years ago and I found it intriguing. I would like to go back. I went to the Museum that kept track of everyone.

Today was a 10* tour! Start as you meant to go on… giving us extremely detailed research into the numbers of immigrants to Berlin today. Then showing us the beautiful renovated period buildings in Prenzlauer berg. But today though? The Germany v England match which you frequently updated us on, despite vociferously pronouncing no interest whatsoever in football, the stormy clouds, threatening to drench you, the massive crowds of Covid carrying people, being accused of being crazy…who would be a tour guide? Only a faded Hollywood Queen like you who takes it all in your stride! The chat loved this hilariously camp side of you today, being shockingly outspoken about your city and making us feel so welcome. I just loved today’s tour as it was so much fun and exciting….and different. No wonder we return again and again to tour with you.

I loved the tour. You are one of the BEST tour guides on Heygo. I love your spontaneity, you candor your humor, but most of all you give so much information on history, art and travel. I look forward to more of your tours. Give my love to you little dog too.
