About the tour

Often considered the centre for exploring the Peak District National Park, Bakewell has a long and varied history. On this tour we will see everything from ancient coffins and crosses to medieval manor houses, find out what Jane Austen called the town and discover exactly where the original "Bakewell Pudding" was made! Join me to explore this fascinating market town on the fast flowing River Wye, surrounded by wooded hills and meadows.

Meet Ian

Hello and thanks for visiting. I’m Ian, a professionally qualified guide. I hold the Blue Badge, which is the UK’s highest tour guiding qualification and have many years’ experience guiding in both English and German. My passion is sharing places and stories with people from around the world, and helping them discover more about this country and particularly the Midlands, where I have lived for almost all my life. I have a friendly and informal style and always aim to bring history to life with anecdotes about people and events rather than just dry facts. I love the sense of community with Heygo and enjoy seeing the same people joining multiple tours. On all of my tours you can expect information, humour and friendly conversation. I want you to sit back, relax and enjoy the experience as you take a walk with your new friend in England. Wherever in the world you are from, I look forward to giving you the warmest of British welcomes.

What to expect

Get ready for something special. We’re travelling to Peak District with no passport, no plane ticket and no luggage. And yet you’ll experience all the sights, sounds and stories with just your laptop, favorite snack and an amazing content creator.

The tour will last about 45 mins and will be live-streamed by your content creator directly from Peak District. Forget about slideshows or pre-recorded videos, this is a live broadcast and anything can happen!

While on the tour you’ll be able to see a full screen video of your content creator and their surroundings, interact with them and other travellers through the live chat, see where you are in the world on a map and show your appreciation with a tip.

Why are they tip-supported?

We are running these tours on a tip-supported basis to make them as accessible as possible. They are free to join, but you have the option to leave a tip during the tour.

The majority of your tip goes directly to support the channel, while the rest helps Heygo continue to build a place that brings the world closer together.

I so enjoy your tours Ian. The stones found in the church & that wooden door with the ancient nails....great history & knowledge that you share. The toll house brought to mind Toll House cookies, popular in North America. Thought I would share with you some history and food. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toll_House_Inn and https://newengland.com/today/food/toll-house-cookies/
