Romania is the only country in the former Iron Curtain where people paid with their lives in a bloody Revolution in 1989 for freedom and democracy. This virtual tour will take us through all of the major aspects regarding life under communist rule in Romania from August 1944 to December 1989. Of course, trying to gather the story of over 40 years of communism within the tour is a challenge but we are ready to offer you the most interesting facts about the Communist era. Your guide will share real life experiences, while walking around the House of People building (the second largest in the world) and by the People's Salvation Cathedral.
Get ready for something special. We’re travelling to Bucharest with no passport, no plane ticket and no luggage. And yet you’ll experience all the sights, sounds and stories with just your laptop, favorite snack and an amazing content creator.
The tour will last about 45 mins and will be live-streamed by your content creator directly from Bucharest. Forget about slideshows or pre-recorded videos, this is a live broadcast and anything can happen!
While on the tour you’ll be able to see a full screen video of your content creator and their surroundings, interact with them and other travellers through the live chat, see where you are in the world on a map and show your appreciation with a tip.
We are running these tours on a tip-supported basis to make them as accessible as possible. They are free to join, but you have the option to leave a tip during the tour.
The majority of your tip goes directly to support the channel, while the rest helps Heygo continue to build a place that brings the world closer together.
Reserve your spot by selecting a time to book. Once done, you’ll be able to see your reservations on your Trips page and we’ll send you an email confirmation with a link to join the tour.

Really enjoyed Bucharest. Can't wait to see more sites in Romania and to travel in person to the country. Thanks for wetting my travel appetite.

Interesting tour. Not everything is rosy and it's just as important to learn the dark side of history.

The presentation had a very good balance between past and present history of the part of the town where the Palace of the People was built.

Excellent tour of the area around the House of the People. Mihai is very knowledgeable on the history of Romania. I learned a lot from this tour. Hope to take more of his tours.
