About the tour

Emily Carr's painting was deeply influenced by the art of the Northwest Coast First Nations. Visit the home of this artist who kept alive the village life of the Coast Salish people in the 1930's and whose paintings are exhibited in Victoria's Art Gallery and Royal BC Museum. Take a walk with me around the James Bay community near Beacon Hill Park, and see wonderful homes and gardens as you get a glimpse of life in the first town of the Pacific North West.

Meet Elizabeth

Born in Montevideo, Uruguay, Elizabeth then grew up in Israel and later in Toronto, Canada, where she studied literature and philosophy at York University. Her adventurous spirit landed her in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, where she pursued a career growing organic produce and culinary herbs for markets and restaurants. Canada had made a lasting impression on Elizabeth and so in 2010 she decided to return and take up residence in Victoria on Vancouver Island. Enthralled by the enchanting parks, Victorian homes, waterways and mystic forests that make up this stunning garden city, Elizabeth delved deeply into the rich history that surrounds Victoria and its outlying areas, learning the stories of the gold rush and the indigenous peoples who live in this land. Elizabeth followed her heart and became a tour guide, exploring amazing places rich with culture, nature and wildlife and founded EV Tours, a tour guide service of private tours on Vancouver Island. On her walking tours on HeyGo, whilst traversing a wildflower field or following a deep forest path, she relates a variety of topics that pique the mind and inspire the soul, touching on such subjects as the island's geology, mind bending historical past, culture and its rich horticulture tradition. Come along with Elizabeth in this renowned Canadian, Pacific North West destination for an exciting and new experience that will expand your knowledge, enrich your spirit and be just plain fun.

You have a beautiful tour but please linger longer on the beauty. For example, longer close ups of the flowers. Also when you show the plaques with Emily Carr's paintings, take the time to read what they say.

I learnt a lot about Emily Carr and a great appreciation of the hardship she endured as an unrecognized artistic genius - Elizabeth had a relaxed confident way of speaking and conveying a lot of information - I realized afterwards how much I had learnt when telling my husband about the tour. Our son and his wife live in Victoria and love it there, we will miss visiting them this year but Elizabeth's tour of James Bay and Beacon made me feel a little closer to beautiful Victoria.
