About the tour

*Note this is not an animal-spotting safari, no hippos or lions will be strolling the city streets, only one smartphone-wielding Heygo guide!* Join Claire, your Nairobi Heygo guide, for a stroll down Nairobi's bustling Kenyatta Avenue, one of the oldest streets in the city, with some grandiose architecture, scars of barbaric acts, and reminders that Kenya has reclaimed its colonial past to become the Silicon Savannah and the business hub of East Africa. We'll cover, amongst others, the McMillan Library (second oldest library in Kenya, which used to be whites-only), Nyayo House (where nasty goings-on in its basement stand as a reminder of a past we never want to return to), and a modern cafe in a grandiose old building with a political history. This tour shows you a side of Kenya you wouldn't necessarily see on a trip to see the animals and beaches, but is important in understanding what made Kenya the nation it is today, and what makes Nairobians so fiercely proud of their city.

Meet Claire

Claire

Whilst Claire is half French and half English by heritage, she is fully Nairobian by choice, and has been in Kenya for long enough to feel right at home in the city. She has lived and worked in six countries, and has always found adventures wherever she's gone: exploring the artistic and off-limits catacombs in Paris, exploring Mexico's coastline in the back of a pick-up truck, chasing alligators in Tanzania, or sky running in Kenya. But what is the common theme behind everything she does? Talking, sharing, and learning something new, so join her on her Kenyan adventures.

What to expect

Get ready for something special. We’re travelling to Nairobi with no passport, no plane ticket and no luggage. And yet you’ll experience all the sights, sounds and stories with just your laptop, favorite snack and an amazing content creator.

The tour will last about 40 mins and will be live-streamed by your content creator directly from Nairobi. Forget about slideshows or pre-recorded videos, this is a live broadcast and anything can happen!

While on the tour you’ll be able to see a full screen video of your content creator and their surroundings, interact with them and other travellers through the live chat, see where you are in the world on a map and show your appreciation with a tip.

Why are they tip-supported?

We are running these tours on a tip-supported basis to make them as accessible as possible. They are free to join, but you have the option to leave a tip during the tour.

The majority of your tip goes directly to support the channel, while the rest helps Heygo continue to build a place that brings the world closer together.

What a fascinating 45 minutes. Claire showed us a succession of diverse city centre buildings, combining architecture, culture and history to give us a rounded tour of the district. Well done!
