Amsterdam has over 160 canals, some are busy with boats and people, but many are much quieter and tranquil. It is amongst these more peaceful canals that we will paddle along in a kayak and explore the city from the water. We will kayak from the busy Canal District, passing by some well-known sites, but perhaps less familiar when viewed from the water. We will pass over the once industrial Brouwersgracht with its former warehouses and into the quieter parts of the beautiful Jordaan. We may even venture as far as Prinseneiland, an idyllic district of peaceful streets and pretty bridges, far removed from the nearby city centre. As this tour is a relaxing tour, the focus will be on the sights and sounds all around as we paddle along the canals. We will hear the water lapping the sides of the kayak and sometimes a gentle splash as the paddle enters the water. It’s likely that there will be wildlife, so we may see and hear ducks, swans, coots or geese as they too make their way gracefully along the canals. Depending on the weather, the sun may be dancing off the canal, creating shimmering reflections. Or the clouds overhead may appear mirror-like on the water, making for more dramatic images. Whatever the weather, there will be plenty of opportunities to take postcards and to just sit back, relax, and enjoy the gentle ride. Will you come all aboard my bike.... uhm kayak ;-) ?
Stephan is a real Dutchie, he was born in Delft (the city of Vermeer), grown up in Gouda (the cheese city), studied in Leiden (city of Rembrandt) and he lived in Rotterdam (the harbour city) before moving to our capital Amsterdam in 2006. After a career in technology as an Online Strategist, he decided to leave behind the corporate world to start guiding visitors of Amsterdam and started his own private tour agency, Amsterdam Experiences. That’s when he discovered that walking and cycling around the city with international visitors is a lot more fun than a desk job! As a guide, Stephan loves to show his virtual guests the hidden gems of Amsterdam through the eyes of a local. He has a passion for telling stories about Dutch history and culture. Stephan is very enthusiastic about the Netherlands and also guides tours in Delft, Utrecht, Rotterdam, Gouda, Leiden and Den Hague. Stephan’s tours cover a wide range of topics, whether that be sensitively tackling difficult subjects, such as Anne Frank and Jewish history of Amsterdam. However, he is equally comfortable being spontaneous, whether visiting goats in a goat farm to riding his orange flowerbike around with the flowerbike man himself. Stephan also now has tours in Belgium, covering Antwerp, Bruges and Ghent. So join him on the bike or by foot, and see the highlights of the Netherlands or even perhaps Belgium.
Get ready for something special. We’re travelling to Amsterdam with no passport, no plane ticket and no luggage. And yet you’ll experience all the sights, sounds and stories with just your laptop, favorite snack and an amazing content creator.
The tour will last about 45 mins and will be live-streamed by your content creator directly from Amsterdam. Forget about slideshows or pre-recorded videos, this is a live broadcast and anything can happen!
While on the tour you’ll be able to see a full screen video of your content creator and their surroundings, interact with them and other travellers through the live chat, see where you are in the world on a map and show your appreciation with a tip.
We are running these tours on a tip-supported basis to make them as accessible as possible. They are free to join, but you have the option to leave a tip during the tour.
The majority of your tip goes directly to support the channel, while the rest helps Heygo continue to build a place that brings the world closer together.

Stephan is my favorite heygo guide. He’s very personable, knowledgeable, and goes to great lengths to position himself so that voyagers can get great postcards. He also has a fun sense of humor!
