About the tour

Alpacas have been called "Dolphins of the Pasture". Tranquil, quiet, intelligent and even spiritual. Today is our annual Alpaca Shearing Day at Haute Goat Farm! Come meet our 12 Alpacas, learn some pretty cool facts about these exotic creatures and watch as we shear their fibre. The alpacas are transformed in this one day as they lose their winter coats and prepare for warmer weather.

Meet Farmer Debbie@HauteGoat

Farmer Debbie@HauteGoat

Farmer Debbie wasn't always a farmer. She was born in Toronto and spent most of her life there. She spent many years as a tv producer with her own company, was the Founding Executive Director of the Hot Docs Festival, helped to grow the Toronto Film Festival's Industry Centre. As much as she loved that industry, she has always been incredibly passionate about animals. So when her husband suggested they buy a farm outside the city, she jumped at the opportunity and never looked back. They bought their first farm in 2007. By 2009 they had 4 goats, 5 horses, a whole bunch of chickens and a few dogs and cats. What Shain and Debbie discovered is that whenever they mentioned having goats, friends, families and others pleaded to visit. The visitors came - and numbers grew like crazy. These days their Haute Goat Shmurgle and Alpaca Knuffle Shuffle are signature events at the farm. Visitors go hiking with the goats (total chaos) and end up in the Goat Playground snuggling, shmurgling and loving on the goats.....or go walking with the Alpacas in an incredibly tranquil, calming journey. We also have Icelandic Horses, an goofy big mule named Lucy Mae Belle and 3 Tornjak livestock dogs. Haute Goat is a place to really engage with animals in a very different way.

I stumbled into this tour at the last minute and I'm so glad I did. What delightful animals alpacas are, and who knew they had the world's most unusual pregnancy test!!! I'll be there for future visits to the farm.

This tour was so interesting. I loved when the alpacas got naked. They look so adorable. I can’t wait for the lockdown to be lifted as I am just across the lake in Niagara and will love to visit the farm. Debbie is an amazing tour guide. Thank you for sharing your farm with us.
