Alpaca Yin Practice The most zen experience on the farm! Be fully present as you move through a yin yoga sequence under watchful eyes of our tranquil alpaca herd. Often referred to as 'dolphins of the pasture' their curious nature will eventually get the better of them and they will start to interact with you as the practice progresses. Relax deeply. Let your eyes take in the rolling Northumberland hillside, listen to all the wonderful sounds on the farm including the alpacas munching contentedly on the grass in the pen where your mat is. Try not to let their cartoon looks distract you from the yoga. Alpaca Yin is an outdoor practice held in the alpaca pen just past the Screaming Goat Cafe and the gift shop. As the practice begins you will have the perfect spot to watch the goats begin their first smuggle of the day. Our certified yoga instructor - Kim Jaye, brings over 2000 hours of yoga training in various yoga lineages with many incredible teachers and a wide variety of life skills to the mat. She is able to relate class practice to the everyday world around us and especially to life here at Haute Goat. Kim truly believes that goats, alpacas and nature bring an element of joy to the practice that is essential for true unity- to our breath and physical body, to the animals, the elements, all one, together, no separation.
Farmer Debbie wasn't always a farmer. She was born in Toronto and spent most of her life there. She spent many years as a tv producer with her own company, was the Founding Executive Director of the Hot Docs Festival, helped to grow the Toronto Film Festival's Industry Centre. As much as she loved that industry, she has always been incredibly passionate about animals. So when her husband suggested they buy a farm outside the city, she jumped at the opportunity and never looked back. They bought their first farm in 2007. By 2009 they had 4 goats, 5 horses, a whole bunch of chickens and a few dogs and cats. What Shain and Debbie discovered is that whenever they mentioned having goats, friends, families and others pleaded to visit. The visitors came - and numbers grew like crazy. These days their Haute Goat Shmurgle and Alpaca Knuffle Shuffle are signature events at the farm. Visitors go hiking with the goats (total chaos) and end up in the Goat Playground snuggling, shmurgling and loving on the goats.....or go walking with the Alpacas in an incredibly tranquil, calming journey. We also have Icelandic Horses, an goofy big mule named Lucy Mae Belle and 3 Tornjak livestock dogs. Haute Goat is a place to really engage with animals in a very different way.
