Johannes Vermeer painted in a very precise way and depicted the play of light and shadow in an unsurpassed way. This however was a time consuming way of working, which explains the relatively few (less than 40) works of the master of Delft. Those works are spread all over the world. The present day owners of these works were kind enough to allow the Vermeer Center Delft to exhibit the copies of these works. Ton will show them and he will explore on details of the most beautiful works.
After his graduation in social geography, just in between the big bang and the collapse of the Roman empire, Ton worked on a science program for children and on urban planning in Amsterdam. He found out that his happiest moments were those were the interaction was not with the keyboard but with people. This made him decide to make a living out of guiding. Initially related to urban planning and architecture, later on the scope became much wider: art, history, society. As a social geographer Ton always looks for the reasons behind present day reality: why was a town founded? Why did it grow, or not? Why such an enormous church or city hall in a small town? Ton's philosophy about life is rather simple. He believes the sense of being is Sharing LKW: Love, Knowledge, Wine.

Thank you for taking us to a wonderful museum in Deft. Vermeer is one of my favorite painters, and I saw his works at the Met in NY many times when I lived there. I'm very pleased to see some of the works at the Met on this tour. His works have many subjects you may miss, but Ton's explanations helped us pay attention to those interesting details.

Loved the tour of the Vermeer museum and the way that Ton explained the mood and symbols in the artworks...then a tour around the beautiful city of Delft. I hope there will be more art tours.
