About the tour

Ghent is a famous port city in northwest Belgium, located at the confluence of the Leie and Scheldt rivers. The medieval city was built around these two important rivers making it ideal to explore the city from the water. Today we do that from a kayak. We paddle along the Leie river past the 12th-century castle, the old harbour and see the most beautiful medieval houses along the water. This is a relaxed tour on the water, in one of the most beautiful cities in Northwest Europe.

Meet Stephan

Stephan

Stephan is a real Dutchie, he was born in Delft (the city of Vermeer), grown up in Gouda (the cheese city), studied in Leiden (city of Rembrandt) and he lived in Rotterdam (the harbour city) before moving to our capital Amsterdam in 2006. After a career in technology as an Online Strategist, he decided to leave behind the corporate world to start guiding visitors of Amsterdam and started his own private tour agency, Amsterdam Experiences. That’s when he discovered that walking and cycling around the city with international visitors is a lot more fun than a desk job! As a guide, Stephan loves to show his virtual guests the hidden gems of Amsterdam through the eyes of a local. He has a passion for telling stories about Dutch history and culture. Stephan is very enthusiastic about the Netherlands and also guides tours in Delft, Utrecht, Rotterdam, Gouda, Leiden and Den Hague. Stephan’s tours cover a wide range of topics, whether that be sensitively tackling difficult subjects, such as Anne Frank and Jewish history of Amsterdam. However, he is equally comfortable being spontaneous, whether visiting goats in a goat farm to riding his orange flowerbike around with the flowerbike man himself. Stephan also now has tours in Belgium, covering Antwerp, Bruges and Ghent. So join him on the bike or by foot, and see the highlights of the Netherlands or even perhaps Belgium.

Always goes that extra mile for us voyagers. Absolutely loved the opportunity to see the canals without any tourists on them... to see the beautiful reflections. Amazing chance to see this.

i loved it - such a unique way to see part of this medieval town, via the waterways, at sunset, with the history and some music. I missed the earlier tour of the city on foot, but his more than made up for it. highly recommended as a tour. thank you Stephan

Kayak ride & scenery were both relaxing & enjoyable. And once the lights came on, the reflections on the water were gorgeous. Only thing not to my taste was choice of music, but I'm old, so that might be why. Think it would have blended well w/Andreas Vollenweider.
