About the tour

Queen Victoria Market presents the Turkish Pazar, recreating the street bazaars of Turkey. We'll find a delicious array of Turkish street food while friendly stall holders will share information about their culture. Tents will display Turkish arts and handicrafts while roving performers and artists will provide entertainment. You can't miss the colourful Australian Ottoman Mehter Band, the Australian Division of the oldest military band in the world. Turkish migration to Australia only began in the 1960s but now these migrants and their descendants are part of the wonderful mix of people in multicltural Melbourne. We thank them for their input and for their glorious food!

Meet Susanna

Susanna

Susanna is an avid reader of historical detective novels, a radio producer, civil celebrant, over-worked grandmother and, for fun, she reconstructs Ancient Roman recipes. For over 30 years she taught adults, particularly women, in the technical aspects of radio broadcasting and film production, or how to get out there and just do it. She's also been a social worker, a consulting psychologist, stage actor and barmaid. Susanna is a proud descendant of 19th century convicts, republicans and revolutionaries and still wants to be a time-traveller.

Thanks for bringing us these cultural festivals! I love that Melbourne embraces multiculturalism so well. Very interesting vendors, there was food, textiles, art and many unique shops. My only recommendation would be to possibly research before some of the traditions of that culture so you can tell us the names of the food or items. Alternatively, you can interview vendors so we get more context.

A very colourful and lively tour 😊 Susanna made it through the crowds very well and got some great shots over the shoulders of the horn players in the marching band. Great tour!

What a fun tour with Susanna! The music, colors, and food as well as the general party-like atmosphere made this so enjoyable.
