About the tour

While little remains of Henry VIII's original renaissance garden at Hampton Court Palace, created to outshine Francis I's palace garden at Fontainebleau in France, the baroque style conversion, made between 1660 and 1702, is a sight to behold. After Charles II became king, he commissioned a canal to be built, inspired by the palace in Versailles and when William of Orange left Holland to become King of England, in 1688, he and Mary kept the canal and updated Henry's Privy Garden which was restored in the 1990s with the greatest attention to historical accuracy. Join me for a stroll around these beautiful gardens and features like The Wilderness and Maze, the ponds, the Tiltyard and Henry's Royal Tennis Court which I had the immense privilege of playing on in 1997.
