About the tour

What makes Indonesia so magical to travelers and people who live here, is the vast and visible variety of cultures, languages, peoples and religions. This variety makes Indonesia unique compared to most other countries. Both travelers and Indonesians sometimes wonder how it is possible for this diverse archipelago to stay united. Recent political developments have made the question more relevant than ever. This tour gives you the chance to go behind the stage of religious performance in Yogyakarta. I lead you through sites of worship of the officially acknowledged religions of Indonesia, Islam, Christianity, Hinduism and Buddhism. In addition, you will get to experience the unofficial, but nevertheless very alive traditional believes of Java which are mixed in with all other religions. This tour offers you an unique opportunity to gain a better understanding of this religious diversity and how they are related to political and social issues in Indonesia today. The information provided by your guide will make you better equipped to understand what you see around you here in Indonesia, and will broaden your perspectives on our world on the verge of religious conflicts.

Meet Mukhlas Nuri

Mukhlas Nuri

My name is Mukhlas which means sincere, and I love to do everything sincerely and with all my heart. In Bahasa Indonesia, Sang Pramuwisata means the tour guide. I love to show you the beauty of my country. I live in Yogyakarta, a city that is full of heritages, arts and culture, cuisine, and tradition. I have worked in this city as a professional tour guide since 2012. I graduated from Yogyakarta State University, with a major in Literature. With this knowledge, I am well equipped to explain to people about the stories and literature that relate to Yogyakarta, Java, and Indonesia. I love to share everything that this country has to offer!
