Alexander Platz: Centre of East Berlin, Capital of the GDR
This exciting tour takes you to Alexander Platz - once the centre of East Germany's Capital: East Berlin.
Alexander Platz which, let me tell you straight away, is no Place de la Concorde! But: It is awash in buildings built during the Cold War era. Socialist Realism, Brutalism, and Functionalism dominated the construction policy of the German Democratic Republic (GDR), as all things conventionally beautiful were frowned upon or downright despised.
Let me take you on a journey to what some have dubbed "the ugliest square in the world", however, that alone makes it worth checking out!
