Belfast Peace Wall and its murals
Did you know there are at least 40 walls through Belfast, separating suburbs that are predominately unionist and nationalist? If added up together, they run for almost 30 kilometres in total!
It's been 20 years since the troubles officially ended in Belfast but the divisions in the capital of Northern Ireland are still clear for everyone to see, as you’ll soon realise on this tour with me. This area of West Belfast is one that has been in the news for decades in reports and videos detailing the long conflict which was brought to an end in 1998 with the signing of the Belfast/ Good Friday Agreement.
On this tour, I will show you how these areas look like today and how the history of the road is reflected in the considerable artwork which has appeared over the years and how opinions of conflict not only in Northern Ireland but other trouble spots around the world are depicted in the murals along the Peace Wall.
This tour is great to get a deeper understanding of this sad and yet fascinating part of our history.
